Nayed Thanks Libyan Judiciary for Fairness on Saif al-Islam Gaddafi’s Appeal

December 02, 2021

We thank the Libyan judiciary for the fairness it has shown in dealing with Dr. Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, and for considering his appeal today in Sebha, despite all the difficulties surrounding the convening of the court session.

We firmly uphold the provisions of the Libyan judiciary, no matter what they may be, in support of the principle of respect for the Libyan judiciary, law, and electoral process. We expect the judiciary and all legal authorities to be reverential, and rise above any suspicion of conflict of interest, or serve any person currently in the executive authority of the Libyan state.

We also stress the importance of making it imperative, for everyone, to respect the regulations issued by the High National Election Commission (HNEC), which are based on the law of the election of the President (Law no.1 of 2021). This, therefore, includes immediately stopping one of the candidates from acting as Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, conducting himself as chairman of boards of major economic and financial institutions, using public funds, distributing political and diplomatic positions, and utilising the full resources of the state for his campaign. Such actions directly violate the principles of fairness, transparency and equal opportunity, and rob the elections of their significance—in fact, it destroys the very basis of elections, and are in full violation of Libyan laws.

Chairman of Libya Libya (Reviving Libya) Party
