Ihya Libya Statement on Parliamentary Elections Law
October 06, 2021
At a time when the Ihya Libya (Reviving Libya) Movement called for the expedient completion of the constitutional obligations related to approving and promulgating laws and rules that pave the way for holding the Presidential and Parliamentary elections on December 24, 2021, and repeatedly communicated with pan-Libya national political parties, movements, and organizations, the international community, the Diplomatic Corps, and the United Nations Support Mission to Libya (UNSMIL), for continuous pressure to move forward towards the Presidential and Parliamentary general elections; while some have dealt with this national entitlement with apathy and inaction, and some have even sought to derail or postpone it;
The Ihya Libya Movement, hereby, welcomes the issuance of the Parliamentary Elections Law, despite its shortcomings; with its deprivation of political parties from assuming their roles in making political action.
The Ihya Libya Movement hopes that the new legislative bodies shall embark, in the future, on developing an electoral system that regulates partisan political work in the country, in order to avoid previous demerits in the relevant legislation, through assigning specialized technical committees to work on drafting laws that are fair to political life in general, and to the empowerment of women and people with disabilities in particular.
May God Bless the Libyan People
God Save Libya
