Ihya Libya Movement Announces Aref Nayed’s Candidacy for Interim PM

July 25, 2023

The Ihya Libya (Reviving Libya) Movement has consistently called for the holding of urgent and simultaneous Presidential and Parliamentary elections out of respect for the popular will expressed by over 2.8 million Libyan citizens who registered as voters.

The Ihya Libya (Reviving Libya) Movement previously withdrew from all attempts to form interim governments, as happened on 14 November 2020, during the sessions of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) in Geneva.

In light of the Libyan Parliament’s session today, Tuesday 25 July 2023, in Benghazi, and the approval of the Political Roadmap by an absolute parliamentary majority, and in preparation for opening of candidacy for the position of Prime Minister, the Ihya Libya (Reviving Libya) Movement will not wait any longer for Presidential and Parliamentary elections, and will hence seek, through consultation and cooperation with sovereign institutions and with the Libyan political, civil and society actors—to form a small-government, whose mandate will be to prepare for the elections. The Ihya Libya (Reviving Libya) Movement therefore puts forward the name of Dr. Aref Ali Nayed for the position of Prime Minister and we will submit a candidacy application according to the procedures that will be announced by House of Representatives and the High Council of State.

The Ihya Libya (Reviving Libya) Movement reiterates its insistence on the need for Presidential and Parliamentary elections and the prevention of further delays in holding them.
